Dating apps need you to keep swiping. We need you to leave.
Meanwhile has no feed, no swiping, and nothing to check. You make one honest profile, and we only speak up when someone genuinely fits. No one pays a cent until two people both say yes.
No slogans — receipts
Every claim here is a design constraint
Anyone can say their app wants you to leave; saying it is free. Mechanisms aren't. Here are ours.
- No feed
- There is nothing to scroll and nothing to check. The main screen says "Nothing new" and means it. Its job is to send you back to your life.
- Your standards, never loosened
- Be exactly as picky as you are. A dealbreaker means never, and we don’t relax your preferences behind your back to keep things moving. We do say plainly what that costs: the more you ask for, the quieter it gets.
- One introduction at a time
- No stack of maybes. When someone clears your bar and you clear theirs, we make one careful introduction, including where you differ, on purpose.
- Verified humans only
- No one is matched before a phone and identity check. We don't vouch for anyone we haven't checked.
- You pay when it works
- Nothing until your first mutual match. You see them, you both say yes -- only then does money exist.
- No engagement machinery
- Your attention isn’t a metric here. No streaks, no badges, no “someone viewed you”. The only number we’re built around is whether you leave happily.
How it works
-
Answer honestly, once
Who you are, the life you’re building, and who you’re looking for. One question at a time, saved as you go.
-
Go live your life
We look quietly and constantly. The silence means we’re working. We’d rather owe you a good introduction than hand you a bad one.
-
One introduction
When someone genuinely fits (each of you clears the other’s dealbreakers), we make one introduction and get out of the way.
-
Meet, and leave
The chat exists to end, ideally across a table somewhere. Seeing someone? Pause with one tap. We’ll be glad to be unnecessary.
You should ask what our incentive is
We'd ask. Nobody here pays until their first mutual match: you see them, you both say yes, and only then does money exist. So the temptation would be to manufacture matches. Two things stop that: the matching thresholds never move to fill a quiet week, and a manufactured match is the one thing you'd never forgive us for. This only grows if it actually works.
The longer version is the founder's manifesto.
Be early
Meanwhile is small, independent, and being built right now. Leave your email and we'll write when the doors open. That's all the address is for.
The waitlist form isn't wired up yet. For now, email matt@meanwhile.dating and say hello. A person reads it. That's kind of the point.
